Tourism can be defined as the activities of traveling, visiting an attraction place, sightseeing, visiting friends, and spending leisure in a beautiful place outside the domestic area for one or more days.

The people who do these kinds of activities are called as tourists. Tourists may be travelers but travelers may not be tourists. Because travelers may be the local people and they use the transportation  vehicle only for going to a destination not for the purpose of visiting or enjoying a place.

The World Tourism Organization (WTO) state that tourism is the activity of people who travel to places outside their customary surroundings and stay there for leisure, business, or other purposes for no longer than one year without interruption.

Tamilnadu is a state in the south-eastern part of the Indian Peninsula. One of the four Dravidian states of India, it has had more than 4,000 years of continuous cultural history. Tamil Nadu has some of the most remarkable temple architecture in the country, and a living tradition of music, dance, folk arts and fine arts. Tamil Nadu is well renowned for its temple towns and heritage sites, hill stations, waterfalls, national parks, local cuisine and the fabulous wildlife and scenic beauty. The state boasts the largest tourism industry in India[1] with an annual growth rate of 16%.In 2015, the number of domestic arrivals was at 333.5 million making the state the most popular tourist destination in the country, and foreign arrivals amounted to 4.68 million, the highest in the country, making it the most popular state for tourism in the country.
